Gary Johnson, P.E. joins Environmental Operating Solutions as Director of Process Engineering

—Company moves to strengthen its position as the technical leader in the field of providing carbon sources for denitrification to wastewater treatment facilities—

September 2, 2008

BOURNE, Mass., September 2, 2008 — Environmental Operating Solutions, Inc. (EOSi) announced today that Gary Johnson, P.E. has joined the company as Director of Process Engineering. Mr. Johnson was most recently a senior project manager with Camp Dresser & McKee, Inc. (CDM). Prior to CDM, Gary spent 26 years at the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection where he was the Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) expert for Connecticut’s implementation of an innovative pollution credit trading program. The program seeks to reduce the nitrogen load discharged to the Long Island Sound from the state’s 79 municipal wastewater treatment facilities. The reduction target is 64% for the period from 2000 to 2014. Gary led the technical review of over 45 advanced wastewater treatment plant nutrient removal projects. These projects are valued at over 700 million dollars in improvements and have been funded through the Connecticut Clean Water Act. Mr. Johnson’s work in developing the Connecticut nitrogen trading program was recognized by Engineering News Record when it awarded him with its 2004 News Maker Award. Gary is licensed as a professional engineer in Connecticut, Maryland, Virginia and Vermont.

“The addition of Gary Johnson to our team will allow us to continue to build on our technical leadership position,” said Eric Stoermer, President and Chief Executive Officer of EOSi. “Gary will work collaboratively with consulting engineers, denitrification systems suppliers and plant personnel to help them achieve their nitrogen removal goals.”

“With increasingly stringent nitrogen discharge requirements being implemented across the United States, a large number of wastewater facilities will require the addition of an external carbon source,” Mr. Johnson said. “The company’s MicroC™ line of products has already been proven at over 220 facilities and offers a compelling alternative to methanol, a flammable and toxic liquid that has traditionally been used.”

Mr. Johnson serves on the Water Environment Research Foundation’s Issue Area Team for Nutrient Removal Research. He also serves on the Water Environment Federation Wastewater Design Committee. “I am impressed by the company’s commitment to work collaboratively with plant personnel and consulting engineers in the application of its products – even if it means recommending a client use fewer gallons of its product or not use EOSi products at all,” said Mr. Johnson. “Through R&D and other technical efforts, they are also committed to improving their existing products and developing new products to meet the industry’s nutrient removal challenges.”
